I lost my cat! What should I do?
Thousands of pets are lost every day. That's why 49% of all cats are kept indoors. You can triple their lifespan and have a better connection with them by keeping them indoors. I know they are natural hunters, but it was at the beginning that we did not live in cities where the danger triples at every turn. That's why I recommend you keep your cats indoors.
Make sure your pet has a collar and a tag. Put the words Reward, I'm lost, interior only, call my human on the label with the phone number. That way, if someone finds it, he will know how to contact you.
STEP 1
Calm down! Stop blaming and take a deep breath. You will need all your intelligence to follow the steps to find your companion.
2ND STEP
Check your house up and down. Attics, crawl spaces, cabinets, cupboards, garages, drawers and basements. I received hundreds of panicked calls from people who did not find their beloved Fluffy, only to discover he was strutting about the kitchen cabinet the next day. Be methodical and calm.
Remember that animals can capture your energy. If you are frenzied, he will be afraid to go out because of all the commotion. If he is the only pet, place bowls of food in the middle of each room and see if they are eaten. This is a sure sign that your furry angel is still somewhere in your home.
STEP 3
If your baby is outside, it's time to start the search. Make sweat as much as possible and grab a blanket or towel that smells good. When you walk around the neighborhood with an open can of tuna, you should be an olfactory beacon for your cat. Sweat on your clothes, blanket or towel and tuna is an irresistible combination.
When you walk, be sure to call the kitten in a soft, affectionate and normal tone. Use a nickname if he has one. If you see it and it does not come to you, sit on the ground and put the tuna in front of you to soften it.
Keep calling, be patient. After leaving his environment for a while, a cat can become wild (survival mode) and have trouble recognizing his human. Once he is close enough, reach out slowly and wrap him in the blanket and towel to bring him home. Remember that the tone of your voice must be sweet and seductive.
STEP 4
Call the Humane Society and tell them about your lost pet. Rent a human trap and place it near the door where your pet has gone. Cover the trap with clothes that have a familiar scent and put in your favorite food. You could catch other babies, so know how to free them from the trap.
STEP 5
Getting the message is very important! That's why I encourage everyone to keep current pictures of their pets. Descriptions may be vague, but a picture is worth a thousand words.
STEP 6
The reward poster is an essential tool for the recovery of pets. Unfortunately, humans are motivated by money and if they see an amount, they will take extra steps to search for your missing pet. The reward poster should have the amount at the top, in LARGE LETTERS, that can be seen from afar. The next thing should be a picture of your pet. The following section should read as follows: Lost near (give the street name only), last seen on (indicate date).
Give special features such as extra toes, a scar, a crooked tail, a very shy image, and a clear description of your pet's coat and breed. Do not write down your address, just your phone number. If the animal has a specific medical problem, indicate it on the flyer. Otherwise, ask "special needs". It's a great motivation if someone keeps your pet. They will think for themselves that there will be veterinary fees and will be pushed to return the animal as soon as possible.
Always pick up the animal with someone else and do not carry cash with you. Add that the reward will be given during the recovery of the animal.
